We were employed by WSD for this Feasibility Assignment to establish the feasibility of laying a duplicated raw water main from Tai Lam Chung to Tai Pang Po (at North Lantau). Currently, raw water to Siu Ho Wan Water Treatment Works is supplied by 2 sources, namely Shek Pik Reservoir and Tai Lam Chung Reservoir. Raw water from Tai Lam Chung Reservoir is currently transferred to Siu Ho Wan Water Treatment Works via an existing DN1800 submarine pipeline, which has been in service since 1997. To cater for the increasing demand for water arising from Lantau’s new development, to improve the robustness of raw water supply to Lantau, and also to ease maintenance and operation, WSD engaged Mannings to review and establish the feasibility of laying a duplicated submarine pipeline between Tai Lam Chung Reservoir and Siu Ho Wan Water Treatment Works. The pipeline is comprised of 2 segments of land mains – one section from the outfall of Tai Lam Chung Reservoir to the coast (exact location to be determined in the study) and another from Ta Pang Po to Siu Ho Wan Water Treatment Works; and 1 segment of submarine main across the Castle Peak Fairway.
